NCAA Football Week 2 Predictions

After a dramatic first week, I am anxious to see what the rest of the season will bring. USC barely beating Minnesota, Baylor taking down TCU, Florida Atl actually scored against Florida...

What can we expect this weekend? With it being so close to a full moon will we see even more craziness? Or at least more hair growth...right?

My "games to watch" this week will be

Iowa over Iowa State - Nothing like some in state rivalry to make things interesting. Who will the Iowans love more? I'm seeing Iowa covering the 7 pt spread and taking the wind outta the Cyclones sails.

Wake Forrest over NC State (favored by 1.5) - The Wolfpack's (cool name) offense seems weak against the Demon Deacons' (another cool name) defense. And QB versus QB talent shows the Deacons can pass around more than a collection plate!

Texas over BYU - The longhorns are favored by 7, and if last week's "we almost got it together" game is any indication, than the Young Cougars (I think there is a joke in there somewhere) will not be eating Bevo anytime soon.

I also see in my crystal ball Tennessee taking out Cincy, Purdue eating Rice, and Nebraska showing Fresno State who's boss. I might even see a Midshipman over take a Hilltopper...

Lets play ball.

NCAA Football Week 1 recap

Well... here's how my picks for week 1 turned out...

Texas over Rice with the spread being 23 - Despite a slow start by a shaky offense, Texas once again trampled Rice. Texas out passed, out rushed, and even out penalty-ed the Owls...It was a good practice game to find the holes - kinda like blowing up a tire, and pushing it under water to see where the bubbles are coming from. I expect they will be patched for next weeks run against BYU

- Final score Texas 34, Rice 9

Ohio over New Mexico State with a spread of 7.5  - It was a battle of Ohio's rushing  game versus New Mexico State's passing game. Ohio rushed for 241 yards compared to NMS measly 6! Manly's killer arm just wasn't enough with all the holes in the defense.

Final score Ohio 44, New Mexico State 24

USC over Minnesota with a spread of  21 - I did take USC to win, but not cover the spread. Good thing too, as the end zone was a hard find for both teams.  The Trojans only managed 3 touchdowns, painfully failing a 2-point conversion attempt on the first two before smartening up and kicking the extra point on the last one. And that was just the first half of the game. Despite a school-receiving record of 17 passes for 177 yards, and a school-passing record of 34 passes for 304 yards, they did not score in the second half, and had trouble stopping the Gophers 2 touchdowns.  I think Kiffin has his work cut out for him, sewing up the defense and figuring out how to harness the magic in Barkley's arm, and Wood's sticky fingers!

Final score USC 19- Minn 17

I'm also took Tennessee over Montana,  LSU over Oregon, and Northwestern over Boston College

Tennessee wowed in their season opener 42 - 16 : (YAY! Go Vols!)
LSU took out Oregon 40 - 27
Northwestern upset the favored Eagles 24-17

It was an exciting 1st week in the picks league over at upickscentral.com - I picked 17 outta 31. I'm #23 tied with 9 others for 6th place - there are 61 of us playing!

NCAA football Week 1 Predictions

I have always wondered what it would be like to have all those announcers giving play by plays of my life like they do the game.

Bob "She is exiting the bathroom now, and it looks like she washed her hands."
Bill "Yes Bob, her hands look like they've been washed... thats the sign of a good hygienic person right there, her Husband Brad obviously recruited well."

Bob "Ya know she was the leading handwasher in High School with over 12 washes per day..."
Bill " I did not know that...Let's go to Nick on the sidelines to find out more"

"Hi this is Nick and I am standing in the hallway next to the bathroom where Paula has just emerged and apparently washed her hands for the 10th consecutive time today; Paula how are you feeling right now?"

I'm feeling pretty good about this weeks picks. The Start of the season is always the most difficult for me. Its hard with 2 young boys to constantly keep up with all the off season news and happenings, plus living is Singapore I am not flooded with the info... but I try. But, the first week has everyone's adrenaline pumping, and you just never know who will come out on top... Half the fun of the picks is trying to figure that out! :)

Here are 3 of my picks for week 1 - remember this is against the spread!

Texas V Rice - 23.5 - While I think Texas is gonna win, I do not think they are going to cover. It is still to be seen whether or not the team has recovered from last years mishap of a season.

Ohio vs New Mexico State - 7.5 - I took Ohio, to win and to cover. I just do not think the NMS Aggies have the manpower to take on the Bobcats. This is a good practice game for Ohio, and I am even going to be so cocky as to make a guess on the scoring... 56-14 - I think the Aggies can pull a few points when the Ohio 3rd string comes on the field.

USC vs Minn - 21 - I DO think USC is gonna take this one, but I think it will be a much closer game than 21. I am pretty sure there are more holes in the USC defense than they think, and the Kiffins have not settled just yet. Although, this will not be the beginning of a magic year for Minnesota... they could be a bit more interesting to watch this year.

I'm also taking Tennessee over Montana,  LSU over Oregon, and Northwestern over Boston College!

Off to watch the games, and hope my girly senses are right!

A Sleeper, a clunker, and the final 10

I am part of a picks group over at Upickscentral.com - great site. It is soooo easy - just run down the pre set games each week, and pick against the spread. Ok so that part is not so easy, but the procedure itself is! At the beginning of the season we pick a clunker - a team who will fall from the top 25, a sleeper - a team not in the top 25 in the start but will finish there, and who we think the final top 10 will be.

So to set up my end of season walk of shame, here are my picks.

Sleeper: Tennessee - not currently in the top 25 (boohoo) but I have faith they will be!! For starters  Dooley has had some time to settle and take stock of his herd. And while there may be a lot of young new team mates on the roster, I am hopeful that the talent in the players will over ride the lack of experience. Plus, I am loyal to a fault!

Clunker: Penn State - I had a hard time picking this one. They are currently ranked 25 in the USA today poll, but my final decision was pushed by the fact that they still have not named a starting QB or right guard, their kicker is suspended and Paterno himself is on the injured list thanks to receiver Devon Smith running him down during practice! They just don't seem as together as they should be with mere hours remaining before the official season starts.

Now for my top 10.

Team #1: Oklahoma
Team #2: Alabama
Team #3: Florida State
Team #4: LSU
Team #5: Oregon
Team #6: South Carolina
Team #7: Oklahoma State
Team #8: TCU
Team #9: Texas A&M
Team #10: Auburn

I argued with myself more than a few times, and this is my final answer. Surely I will kick my self several times throughout the season. Is it just me, or does every team seem to be oozing some sort of awesomeness this year? Maybe its just rose colored football is finally back is session beer goggles everyone is wearing.

I will get points for correctly picking teams, as well as having them in the right spot. Even now I am thinking of making a quick change before the window closes in a few hours!

Who would you put in the top 10? your clunker? your sleeper?

xoxo

Are you REALLY ready for some football?

You are not really ready for the big game unless you have your game day gear! Hats, shirts, banners, etc. There is even jewelry for the ladies! Shoes, scarves, ties, gloves, glasses, you name it, you can find it...

I have a set of Tennessee earrings and a necklace, of course shirts, a bag, and I just ordered some flip flops :)

Here is a draft of some of my favorite sites to shop for team gear!

http://collegewear.com/ - you can start off by entering your team name, so no sorting through other teams!

http://www.collegegear.com/ - serious stuff, or funny stuff - Check out their line of Honey Badger gear :) - but Honey Badger doesn't give a sh*t if you buy it or not! (I ordered mine already :)

For those living under a rock, here is the Honey Badger Video!

http://www-01.footballfanatics.com/COLLEGE - This site even has a special line by one Miss Alyssa Milano!

The 2011 NCAA FB Preseason Rankings

The USA Today Poll

1 Oklahoma (42)
2 Alabama (13)
3 Oregon (2)
4 LSU (2)
5 Florida State
6 Stanford
7 Boise State
8 Oklahoma State
9 Texas A&M
10 Wisconsin
11 Nebraska
12 South Carolina
13 Virginia Tech
14 Arkansas
15 TCU
16 Ohio State
17 Michigan State
18 Notre Dame
19 Auburn
20 Mississippi State
21 Missouri
22 Georgia
23 Florida
24 Texas
25 Penn State

Some teams have a lot of ground to make up like (my team) Tennessee and Georgia Tech. Others may struggle to hang on to last years magic like Wisconsin, or struggle to just even find their feet like Texas.

Who do you think will rise, and who will fall?  I can't wait to find out!

Its almost football time in Tennessee!

Oh, its almost here!!

In 20 short days the Volunteers Football season will start with a "warm up" against the Montana Grizzlies, followed by a rumble against the Cincy Bearcats, and a Gator Hunt in the swamps of Florida... That's gonna be a scary game!

Next up are 3 home games in row... Buffalo and Georgia, then the much anticipated game against LSU (Tennessee has defeated the Tigers 20 times, owning a 20-8-3 all-time series record. GO VOLS!) That particular game is on Oct 15 and I should be in Tennessee then, so maybe I will even get to go :)

If thats not enough excitement for ya, the rest of the season will be NON STOP DRAMA!

Alabama, S. Carolina, MTSU, Arkansas, Vandy, Kentucky!

My head is spinning ...

Then, hopefully a bowl game or even... dare I say, a National Championship game?

I am so anxious for all of this to start! Watching the first game of the year, for me, is like getting a Coach bag on sale. Its really exciting, and gives me a rush, and something to talk about besides the bag I just bought on sale :)

Here's to another great season!

LET GO VOLS!!
